Our junior Olympic size swimming pool is home to our championship swim team, the TDC Breakers. Boasting nearly 150 young swimmers every year, the swim team provides an opportunity for your children to compete against others in an atmosphere of fair play, good sportsmanship, and safety. In addition to daily practices and six meets, the Breakers also host numerous social events during their season including float night, dive in movies, an ice cream social, and an end of year awards banquet. Practices begin immediately following Memorial Day with the official season beginning after school gets out in mid-June. Swimmers are divided into categories by age as outlined below beginning with the Mini Mites at age five. TDC typically has one head coach and two assistant coaches, all of whom offer individual lessons at very reasonable rates. Allow your children the opportunity to exercise and learn a lifelong skill while forging new friendships and having fun!
Hey Breakers! My name is Lauryn Nilson and I’m entering my second year at the University of Virginia. I have over 12 years of swimming experience, including swimming for NOVA, Dolphin Club, Short Pump Sharks, Deep Run High School, Westwood Club, and TDC. Currently, I swim on the UVA Club Swim team, where I swam at College Club Swim Nationals. Outside of the pool, I am involved in Club Running, the Outdoors Club, anchoring for WUVA media, lifeguarding at the aquatic center, and I never miss a chance to cheer on the Wahoos! This will be my third summer at TDC, and I am so excited to be working with such a hardworking and energetic team! It has been extremely rewarding to see our swimmers grow throughout the seasons, and I can’t wait for more fun and fast swimming this summer. Go Breakers!
Hey Breakers! My name is Ella Ackerman and I’m graduating from Collegiate School this spring, and planning to attend college in the fall in hopes to become a nurse! I have been swimming with The Dominion Club since I was five years old and have coached for the past two summers. I’m so excited to continue coaching and watching all of the swimmers improve and have fun this summer! In high school I have participated in sports including swimming, rock climbing, and yoga. I plan to continue to pursue these interests in college this fall. After swimming competitively for 10 years, I have now discovered my love for helping others to learn and improve their swimming skills. I’m looking forward to helping the breakers reach their full potential this season! I can’t wait to have another great year of swimming and coaching. Go Breakers!
Hey Breakers, my name is Drew Acquaye! I am currently finishing up my first year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and I am super excited for my first year as a TDC Coach! I have been swimming for 10 years and swam for NOVA for 8 years. Although I swam summer league at Twin Hickory for a while, I swam for The Dominion Club for my final three years. At UNC, I am a Business and Sport Administration double major with a Spanish minor. While at UNC, I teach swim lessons through a volunteer organization called Dive In and I am a member of UNC’s Cheerleading Team. I can’t wait to see some new and familiar faces on the team and have a great summer full of fast swimming, warm weather, and FUN! Go Breakers!
